Hide DetailLangtang Valley Trek
Langtang is a narrow valley sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north which is bordering Tibet and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south. Trekking in Langtang valley to offers the great opportunity to explore villages, bag small peaks (remark: a small Himalayan peak is still far higher than the highest mountain in Europe) and visit glaciers at still comfortably low elevation. Mighty Langtang Lirung (7246m) dominates the valley to the north; Gang Chhenpo (6388m) and the trekking peak of Naya Khang (5846m) lie to the south, and Dorje Lakpa (6966m) protects the east end of the valley. Langtang valley trek was designated Nepal’s first Himalayan national park in 1971, although the park was not officially established until 1976.
The high and isolated region is inhabited by the ethnical group of Tamang whose religious practices, language and dress are much more similar to those of Tibet than to the traditions of their cousins in the middle hills. According to legend, a lama following a runaway yak discovered the valley. Hence the name “Yakpo” is Tibetan for “yak” and “Teng” means to “follow”. Yaks still live in the upper valley, but they now share it with trekkers and other wild animals are also found in this area like Mountain Deer, Red panda, Snow leopard and birds like peacock, Lophophorus and so on.
the Langtang region of Nepal. Last April's (2015) earthquake devastated the region and we heard it was closed and unsafe for Trekkers for a few months. Regarding the Langtang valley operator, now we find out that the region was open and the area also resonates with the sounds of the rebuilding of the houses.
The Langtang region (north of Kathmandu or other trails are also suitable for trekking. We also experienced a wide variety of landscapes, villages, guest houses, and people which made the cultural experience interesting and rich.
